This post is from Romance, West Virginia at the Rippling Waters Campground. We’re discovering that the road is long, but enjoyable. Yesterday, we stopped in Abingdon, VA at the Post Office for stamps. Abingdon is one of those towns that one would like to spend more time. Local civic pride is noticeable in the landscaping and restoration of older buildings downtown.
Continuing NE on I-81, we connected with I-77 at Wytheville, VA. The mountain scenery started from that point northward. We drove through two long tunnels on I-77 just before crossing into West Virginia. Encountered lots of traffic on this route. Between Beckley and Charleston there was a long highway construction delay. Romance, WV is just a few miles north of Charleston. Decided to end the day in this very small town. Driving through Charleston reminded us of the last International BMW motorcycle rally we attended there a few years ago. We brought the 1983 BMW RT for a final tuneup before selling it later at another rally (the ’Chicken Rally’ in Huntsville, AL).
Stay tuned….
